You studied hard. You wanted to be a vet all your life. Now you ARE one, you have completed your Compulsory Community Service, and the world is your oyster. But, veterinary science is a broad field and although you have “your licence to practice”, you know that you still have a lot to learn.

Our internship programme may just be the thing for your to launch your career on a solid foundation.

We all started where you are now and we know how intimidating it can be. Why not get your career off to the best start possible by ensuring you work under the care and supervision of experienced vets that can help you learn and grow your knowledge and experience. Does this mean that we will always be holding your hand? Definitely not. There are going to be times that you will have to fly solo, but there will always be support and someone close by to help.

Our practice is one of the oldest and most established practices in the country, having turned 80 years old in 2023.

You will consult, establishing exceptional rapport with the clients, and do full workups, including lab work, diagnostic imaging, and whatever other tests are required to make a diagnosis to treat your patients correctly. You’ll need to work at a fairly brisk pace and multitask. Orthopaedic surgery is done on a regular basis by our consulting specialist surgeons, but for our generalist vets, soft tissue surgery is scheduled daily. If you like dentals, you’ll find your niche.

You’ll care for the animals in the hospital, and you’ll stay invested in your patients, and be in touch with their people – no sitting around and checking social media platforms all day. You will deal with the clients in a compassionate yet assertive way.

You will help out wherever and with whatever is needed to make our practice the best place for pets and their people to come to.

If this sounds like the place you should start your formal private practice career then please send your CV and a short cover letter telling us a bit about you to dreamteam@pethero.co.za
